____FORD Tough_____
Question:
We had two new Broncos on my job several years ago. Both had brake problems, one had numerous problems including head gasket failure and intake gasket manifold failure. AC died on one and cost 1200 to fix. Knock on wood for that 91.
Response:
You got lucky on that Ford thing. GM has it’s problems, so does Ford, and Dodge too. I have a GMC Van with 360,000 on it. Japanese cars and trucks run well if you maintain them. Skip a few oil changes though and they blow up on you. My uncle owned a Buick Wildcat for over 10 years and I think the only oil changes it got were due to leaks and/or burning it. He finally junked it when both lower ball joints fell off on the same day. He was not a believer in preventative maintenance and yes, it involved a lot of luck. — Ripper http://www.ripper1.com/ Graphics and murals by Ripper Harley page http://www.ripper1.com/harley.htm Camaro Page http://www.ripper1.com/f-body.htm Picture page http://www.ripper1.com/pictures.htm

As a die hard GM car owner for 20 years, my dad had 4 Chevy Pick Up Trucks (3/4 Ton ) a 62, 68, 74 & 84. The 68 had a 396 & the 74 & 84 ha 454’s. All were step sides. The 74 was horrible on gas & ate water pumps up. The 84 lost the blue metallic paint off the primer then we had a grey truck as the peeling spread. 2 radiator’s and 3 water pumps were also put on the 84. Both rusted badly too. In 91 dad bought a 91 Ford F 250 regular cab, 2 WD with a 460 V8.. I tried to convince dad to try another Chevy or GMC, but he liked the looks of the Ford. He never test drove a Ford pick up so when he got it after waiting almost 8 months due to an ordering error, he was quite suprised at how rough it road, not like a Chevy truck road. We had the Ford till from 1991 to 2000. We never had any problems with it . Except for tune up parts, belt & hoses and brakes nothing else was ever replaced. Sold it with the original altenator, starter, water pump, radiator, etc. Of course the truck only had 50,000 miles on it. But in the 50,000 miles of driving the 74 & 84 Chevy lot of parts were replaced on those engines ( 454 ’s ). The Chevy’s were also oil burners. Some times I wonder if its just luck. I know a parts driver with 540,000 miles on a 94 Dodge Ram Van ( Cargo), a Jewish lawyer with a 92 Toyota Corolla with 253,000 & me with 205,000 on a 1991 Pontiac Bonneville . h

Me too! I bought a 1992 F-150 with a 5.0 (302). My Dad always swore by the 302. ( I spent my childhood in the back seat of a 1970 falcon and a half (Torino). It had a 302 and died with the odometer rolled over twice.) The body held up OK, but the engine started leaking oil at 87,000 miles. After $750.00 worth of oil pan gaskets and rear main seals was told the bottom half of the engine needed to be rebuilt. during this process TUFFY in Columbus managed to crack the exhaust manifolds and warp the heads while jerking the engine around, but that’s another story. I traded it in on a 01 Monte Carlo SS. Love the Monte, but time will tell! Mike

a Jewish lawyer with a 92 Toyota Corolla with 253,000 . Why is being Jewish of any relevance here? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > As a die hard GM car owner for 20 years, my dad had 4 Chevy Pick Up > Trucks (3/4 Ton ) a 62, 68, 74 & 84. > The 68 had a 396 & the 74 & 84 ha 454’s. > All were step sides. > The 74 was horrible on gas & ate water pumps up. xxxx 1. When it comes to cars, Jewish lawyers know nothing. 2. They cut 1/2 in. off the tail pipe, do the ritual and drive it. 3. They don’t know the hood opens. 4. The car gets a lot of short trips. 5. Synagogues don’t have covered parking. 29
