2002 1500 HD 4×4 price?
Question:
All, Has anyone purchased a chevy through an on-line dealer? Experiences? I know that at delaers I can get a Ford for about $500 over invoice, and was wondering if Chevy’s ran the same? Thanks, Phil

Phil, Sure, you can get the same deal at Chevy you get at Ford. But don’t kid yourself. It’s a long way from "$500 over invoice", unless you understand that the "total cost to the dealer" and "invoice" are two vastly different numbers. Dealers really make about $1,500 – $6,000 per vehicle, depending on base cost, options, incentives, etc. I have a good friend who owns a dealership. The games the manufacturers and dealers play to keep the consumer in the dark are truly amazing. firstly I would not consider an online dealer period. buy from where you expect warranty service. Get a deal of 100 bucks over dealer cost from a high volume dealer in your area. The dealer is making about 5 percent of the retail price over your 100 bucks over dealer cost. [ don't argue...don't ask me why.. they do it and it is basically a kick back to the dealer from the manufacturer for any truck they get delivered to their lot regardless if you ordered it or not.] There are many reports on the above and below dealer cost sales. Most often, the below dealer cost sale was to a GMC employee…Otherwise, near cost or just over ‘dealer cost’ is a fair deal. Anyone paying the retail sticker is generous to the dealer. Anyone trading in a good truck is getting half of what it’s worth to anyone other than a dealership. If you want a 3/4 ton instead of the 1/2 ton, you mat do so with little difference in cost … But the fuel consumed in the larger engines is greater…a little shocking to some. The 4 by 4 costs a couple thousand more then 2 wheel… so do you need it? I got the 3/4 ton short bed extended cab LT trim 2000 which has the 6 liter engine and 3.73 rear and 4 by 4. It hard to adjust from a simple 5 liter 3.73 rear 2 wheeel reg cab long bed . The gas mileage is very different. The half ton did not have the power I needed on the rare occasion to pull a particular load. I pay for the privelege to have power and traction every mile. I wonder what the HD means in a 1/2 ton. Compared to light duty… Also, what it would be for a 3/4 ton light versus HD… I think there is some hype in it and little difference…but I don’t know.. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > All, > Has anyone purchased a chevy through an on-line dealer? Remember that you are buying two very different trucks. The Chevy is the HD 3/4 ton crew cab rebadged as a half ton HD. The Ford (I think) is a half ton with an extra leaf spring and a bit bigger differential. Check out the specs to be sure of what it is you are buying, line by line. Do the homework and you should be OK.
