2000 Silverado

Question:

Hey does anyone know what’s up with chevy’s new Diesel engine? I heard they were going to put either a tuned down Caterpillar or an Isuzu truck diesel in the 2500 series and 2500 Suburbans. Are they really going to shelf the 6.5 litre turbo diesel? They should! -John

sure plant your foot on the floor ;) my 86 4.3l will propel my Astro van to somewhere in the 120 range. where I hit the Rev-limiter on the engine. and the trans won’t let me use over-drive at that speed. (TV-cable style 4sp auto) my speedo only goes to 85 . .but a friend following me on the freeway said I was doing 113 and still acclerating away from him when he chickened out.  (he was in a newer lumina van) astro’s cruzie comfortably and quite stably at 100+… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Does anyone know if there is a chip out there or a way to go over 100 mph.

There must be something wrong with your truck, my 2000 GMC Z-71 5.3 L will run up past 100 in a heart beat. You can see a picture at, http://people.mw.mediaone.net/voai/index.html Meddle of the page. GKShadow

on my 1992 silverado stepside with 5.7L 350 and auto tranny. I run past 100 with ease.  I was told once by a freind tailing me in a vette that I was pushing 130, before I backed off, the tach was still climbing with authority. everything I have is bone stock.  no shutoff, etc… -kewlbrz – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Yeah, it might cruise at 100mph, but have you ever tried to pass >someone at that speed? Just got back from my first trip with my 2000 GMC Z-71 5.3 L Ext.Cab. Pulling a trailer, I was more then surprised how well it performed. The trailer weighed about 1800 Lbs. (Low wind resistance, 14 inch wheels.) I found rolling along at 75 Mph. It would kick into passing gear. NO! problem. From around 35-40. I could kick it down and pull away from most cars. Running 75 Mph. I got 298 Miles out of one tank. The next day it was very windy. I only got 236 Miles on that tank. (Gas or Wind?) I didn’t check after that. The 5.3 L, out performed the 1998 with the 5.7 in every way. I glad I traded. GKShadow.

Yes, there is a chip, But for you a module, and I have been looking into it myself and what it does is help your truck in it s mid range which is the whole rpm band from 1100 to 4000 or what ever your truck shifts at red line.  And what this chip (module) is designed to do is to make your truck shut off at 250 mph.But we all know that our trucks can’t and won’t handle it.  But I have a 89 CHevy ext. cab 350 and mine, stock, pushes 125mph at the most on a good day. But still I have a governor but it doesn’t shut off the motor it just makes me not go any faster.  But I ahve done plenty of research and this is  called the Hot Chip and it a good chip for a reasonable price that beats other companies.  I would suggest it,  www.performanceresource.com/ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > WHY??? get a sportscar or move to Germany and use their autovon system.  non > racing modified trucks are not safe over 100.  I like going fast too, that’s > why I have a new Trans Am … yup well over 150 is easy, my Silverado is > more for show and work.  I’ll say a few prayers for ya if you find a go fast > chip to by-pass the governor. > Does anyone know if there is a chip out there or a way to go over 100 mph.

na just mid-life crisis. Yup yur right even a ‘99 vette would wup me good. 305 hp vs 345 isn’t much of a contest …. but an extra $15,000 for the Vette prestige … wish I could …. I tease the wife about getting one but I don’t want to cook the rest of my meals for the rest of my life. Trans Am is in the top few and probably the top sportscar for value … sorry Chev the Camaro isn’t in the running due to poor style. But, 4×4′g in the Z-71 is almost as fun as playing a teenager again.

Response:

Yes there is!  It is Called HYPERTECH.  It is a little handheld device that costs $299.00!  I havent purchased one but I am thinking about it.  YOu can also adjust your shift points with it.  And if you raise your truck you can adjust that also.  Later – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Does anyone know if there is a chip out there or a way to go over 100 mph.

I’ve owned late model Chevys for the last nine years and have noticed wind noise in most of them. Kinda seems funny that we worry about wind noise in a pickup truck. I guess since they are so quiet now you here these things. Check for loose or misaligned weatherstripping. — The Garage Mahal http://uscom.com/~hoot/

I had wind noise driver and passenger side. Turned out to be from the joint where the mirrors pivot. Easily fixed with some rubber tape.
