Brighter headlights

Question:

I completely agree. I had Dick Cepek 90/130 headlights and they really never put the lights in the right places. So while on eBay I found a company called Kyoto that sells the Xenon Hyper lights. With my old setup I would constantly burn out the wiring at the dimmer switch. With the Xenon Hyper lights ( I do have blue ), they rate them at 100/135 with a draw of only 80/85. So no more wiring problems. Low beams give a nice flood light patter while still shinning down the road farther than standard and on high beam it is more of a pencil beam, with still giving enough light right in front of the vehicle. I have a 4×4 van with a 4" lift and 33" tires, so the lights are around four feet off the ground and I do not get flashed or hassled by cops. I guess it all depends where you live. I would suggest if you do not go blue, definitely go white. Some go with purple, but they do not light the ground as well. One other thing I found with the blue they seem to highlight even old strips on the road. Regards, Chuck

: I put some Xenon, hyper white – style bulbs in my Sierra and love them lots : of extra light, the beam pattern throwd it in all the right places……but : check your laws regarding lights because in some areas, they are highly : illegal and you will get a lot of unwanted attention if you use : them…..another point -> make sure the ones you get are in the ‘white’ : wavelength, some are more ‘blue’ and these will really get you noticed by : the police…..

He could also do us all a favor and NOT get the halogen lights with the blue tint to them.  I’m not sure about other blue bulbs but read here: http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/info/bulbs/blue/bad/ about the illegal ones, and here: http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/info/bulbs/blue/good/ about the legal ones. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Try JC Whitney.  They have tons of replacement bulbs of different types and > packages.  In fact, some you can even get 55×130 (55 watts low beam, 130 > watts high beam). > Auxilary lights might be a better solution.  I’ve got a pair of 130 watt > bark burners mounted on my pushbar and a pair of 35watt driving lights > mounted from the bottom of my bumper (lifted S10 = hand fabricated > framehorns that stick out and need to be hidden).  I get a healthy mile out > of my projection lights, but they need to be adjusted whenever load changes. > My driving lights (which have distorted elliptical lenses that put out a > wide, short beam) are aimed about fifteen feet closer (almost directly at > the ground) than my regular headlights.  However, the bark burners will get > you a ticket and give someone a real reason to flash you. > just do us all a favor, and don’t become one of those assholes that drive > around with their poorly aimed driving lights on all the time. > -Brian > Anyone try the new whiter lights?  I work 3rd shift and drive all night. > Need > brighter lights.  Any suggestions?

My ‘98 GMC Envoy came with High Intensity Discharge (HID) lights that supposedly spit out 2.7 times the light of regular halogen bulbs.  They really are incredible, but probably pretty expensive.

Try JC Whitney.  They have tons of replacement bulbs of different types and packages.  In fact, some you can even get 55×130 (55 watts low beam, 130 watts high beam). Auxilary lights might be a better solution.  I’ve got a pair of 130 watt bark burners mounted on my pushbar and a pair of 35watt driving lights mounted from the bottom of my bumper (lifted S10 = hand fabricated framehorns that stick out and need to be hidden).  I get a healthy mile out of my projection lights, but they need to be adjusted whenever load changes. My driving lights (which have distorted elliptical lenses that put out a wide, short beam) are aimed about fifteen feet closer (almost directly at the ground) than my regular headlights.  However, the bark burners will get you a ticket and give someone a real reason to flash you. just do us all a favor, and don’t become one of those assholes that drive around with their poorly aimed driving lights on all the time. -Brian
